Friday, Feb 10

Friday is a day of Workshops and Field Trips!

8:00 – 12:00: Occupancy Modeling. Multispecies occupancy models are a useful tool for research and conservation projects. This workshop will introduce multilevel models; compare multispecies models to single species analogues; explore examples from both observational and experimental studies, including study design and sampling and with a focus on herpetofauna; demonstrate implementation in the R software platform; and discuss statistical inference about parameters and derived quantities from both frequentist and Bayesian perspectives. Workshop will focus on a worked example (stored in a R workspace) to understand manipulation of model output, including discussion and presentation of model summaries in tables and graphics. Workshop will provide data and code to run a multispecies model outside the workshop. Workshop content is designed to interest individuals with a broad range of familiarity with both occupancy models and R software. Participants will need to have R loaded on their computer prior to the workshop, although successful participation in workshop does not require a computer. 15 participants maximum

9:00 – 12:00: Wildlife Habitat Planning. Wildlife Habitat Planning workshop with the National Wildlife Federation. This workshop will focus on helping participants inventory and develop a site plan for their own property, or other small area they would like to target with habitat enhancements. 40 participants maximum.

9:00 – 12:00: Museum Tour (Off-site). Celebrate the history of our native peoples with this guided tour at the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute. Led by Bobbie Conner, director of the institute, you will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Curatorial Facilities. This is a unique opportunity to engage with our tribal heritage that not many get to see! 30 participants maximum. Meet at the museum.
